Preity Biography



Preity Zinta was born January 31, 1974, in Simla, India. Unlike the girls around her she grew up as a tomboy, shunning dolls and choosing to play with her brothers instead. "I was a complete hell raiser," she admits. Her carefree existence would likely have continued were it not for her father's death in a tragic car crash when she was 13. "My mother was with him at the time," Preity recalls. "She was severely hurt and was bedridden for two years. I think that was the first turning point in my life."

From that point forward everything changed. "I was forced to grow up," Preity says. "My brothers are one year older and one year younger than me and I remember they'd be crying all the time." Thankfully, time heals all wounds and Preity soon returned to a regular life. By the time she was 17 she began partying and dating. A year later she enrolled at Bombay University where she studied criminal psychology.
