Rani career



She began her film career with the Bengali film Biyar Phool. However, she made her Hindi debut in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996). The film did not do well at the box-office. Her nhext release, Ghulam (1998) with Aamir Khan was more successful. In 1998, she played a supporting role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai opposite Shahrukh Khan and Kajol for which she won her first Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress.

She appeared in a fair number of movies after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but none of them were enormous successes. Her career seemed to be stalled, until she starred in the 2001 film Saathiya, directed by Shaad Ali. More film offers came her way.
