Despite appearing alongside some of the Indian film industry's biggest stars, Shilpa Shetty remains firmly among the middle rank of Bollywood actors, better known for her stunning looks than her on-screen abilities.

Born in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu to parents who were both
models, Shetty took her first modelling shots at the age of 15 and was
quickly picked up by an agency.

As a schoolgirl, friends said Shetty had hoped to become a catwalk model, but at 15 was still two inches too short for the job - although at her eventual
height of 5' 11" she grew up to be one of the tallest women in Bollywood.
