Appearence on the movie screen was in Raja Ki Ayegi Barrat (1997).
The second movie with Rani was Ghulam (1998) and her wonderful and nonchalant performance in this movie was noticed by the press. The song "Aati Kya Khandala" from Ghulam made Rani a sensation. Rani won her first Filmfare award for best supporting actress in the hit movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Next Rani acted in Mehndi (1998) and had a special appearance as the sexy girl in the song "Kali Nagin Ke Jaisi" in the movie Mann (1999), followed by the funny ghost-movie Hello Brother (1999) and the romantic action drama movie Badal (2000). Badal was not a succes, the film left theatres in India without a whimper. Rani had a small part in the historical movie Hey Ram (2000). Hey Ram takes place in the period around the independence of India and Mahatma Gandhi.
Rani's next movie is Hadh Kar Di Aapne (2000), a comedy with Govinda. Rani had faith in Govinda and David Dhawan's saleability at the box office. Unfortunately, the film failed to raise a laugh and the cash boxes did not ring. I enjoyed Rani's next movie Bichhoo (2000) very much, Bichhoo is a action movie in which Kiran (Rani) seeks revenge for the murdering of her family. For Rani's next movie Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000) she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. This movie is based on the Hollywood movie "While You Were Sleeping" with Sandra Bullock. But in this movie it is Rani's character who is in a coma.
